While La Thuile is an excellent base for the more advanced skier wanting to explore beyond the piste, Ski4Real organizes expeditions throughout the Alps including regular tours of the Monte Rosa massif in spring. Monte Rosa provides one of the highest tour routes perfectly supported by an infrastructure of strategically placed mountain huts on the border between Switzerland and Italy.
Skiers must be competent and fit as the expedition requires carrying one’s own equipment. Mountaineering experience helps but is not essential as the use of equipment will be taught prior to the expedition.
Valley Blanche
The best introduction to off-piste tours, however, is the spectacular descent of the Valley Blanche in spring when the crevasse bridges allow safer descents for guided parties. The Valley Blanche is accessed from above Courmayeur and after a long day through the spectacular valley surrounded by the giants of the Alps including Mont Blanc, Grande Jorasse and the Dru, the route ends above Chamonix; road transport from Chamonix leads back through the tunnel to La Thuile. Weather permitting, this ski tour is within the ability of most intermediates.
Heli-Skiing
Heli-skiing is not available across the border in France, but La Thuile’s heli-skiing has become legendary, exploring the high glacial landscape above the village. Ski4Real arranges heli-skiing in late spring above La Thuile and costs depend on the itinerary. Drops to both Miravidi (3068m) and Rutor (3485m) glaciers provide access to several varied descents suitable for intermediate and expert skiers.
All ski-mountaineering and touring courses are individually priced according to the venue and length of tour. The fee includes the UIGMA guide, bed and breakfast in hotels or mountain huts, transport to the start and finish of the tour and all coaching. As each tour is specific, please contact Ski4Real for an itinerary and details.
